Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030: Overview and Assessment

The New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) was officially launched by the Malaysian government to chart the strategic direction of the country’s manufacturing sector for the next seven years. The NIMP 2030 lays out a broad policy framework that will serve as a policy guide for Malaysia’s industrial development. It has six key goals focusing on increasing industries’ economic complexity, strengthening industrial clusters, increasing the income and skills of workers, more balanced development across states, stronger domestic linkages and sustainable development. Implementation of the NIMP 2030 will be driven by four missions that will advance economic complexity, tech up for a digitally vibrant nation, push for net zero, and safeguard economic security and inclusivity. This seminar will first provide an overview of the NIMP 2030. This will be followed by a critical assessment of the NIMP 2030 in terms of its goals, scope, and strategies.
