Library of Congress Southeast Asia, “American Impact on the Culture of the Republic of Vietnam,”
Date and time: 5/2/23 | 3PM EST
The upcoming Library of Congress Southeast Asia event: “American Impact on the Culture of the Republic of Vietnam.” This hybrid event will be held May 2nd from 3:00 to 4:00 pm eastern daylight time. The time was chosen to be convenient for people in different US time zones. The event provides an engaging forum for scholars Tuan Hoang and Wynn Gadkar-Wilcox to discuss the Republic of Vietnam.
Spanning pop music, movies, and fiction to esoteric Buddhist and continental philosophy, the speakers will reveal a variety of cultural and intellectual trends of a noncommunist Vietnamese experience of modernity, decolonization and the Cold War; all while highlighting the neglected history of the Republic of Vietnam.
It should be an engaging event coming at the end of the semester, perfect for a last minute extra credit assignment for faculty or as a much needed study break for students.
Please feel free to forward the attached flyer to graduate students, faculty and others in your network.
