Tuesday, April 8, 2025 | 3:00–4:00 PM HST
Moore Hall 319 (Tokioka Room), University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

The Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) invites you to an engaging seminar with award-winning bilingual filmmaker and translator Linda Hoaglund, who will discuss her distinguished career subtitling films and translating works by some of Japan’s most iconic animators, filmmakers, and artists.

With over 300 films to her credit—including Spirited Away, Seven Samurai, Shoplifters, and more—Hoaglund brings decades of experience navigating the cultural nuances of language, art, and media. She will reflect on the challenges and joys of making Japanese cinema and literature accessible to global audiences.

This event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the Careers in Asia-Pacific Affairs (CAPA) Speaker Series and the East Asia National Resource Center.
