Bring Balinese Shadow Puppetry to Your School! UHM Asian Theatre Program Offers Free Performances & Workshops

Flyer: Balinese Shadow Puppetry
Workshops and Lecture Demonstrations for Schools
The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) Asian Theatre Program is inviting local schools to experience the magic of Balinese shadow puppetry through free performances, lecture demonstrations, and hands-on workshops in Balinese dance and puppetry arts.
This year’s program, Jaga Alam (“Taking Care of Nature”), is a creative Balinese puppetry project with an environmental focus. Renowned Balinese master artist Mr. Made Moja will be in residence at UHM in April 2025, offering an exciting opportunity for students to engage with this rich cultural tradition.
Schools can host a free workshop or presentation, where students will explore traditional and modern puppetry techniques while learning about environmental storytelling through the Balinese art form.

This program is supported by the UHM Center for Southeast Asian Studies, the UHM Asian Theatre Program, and the Luce Foundation.
