Harvard Global Vietnam Wars Studies Initiative (GVWSI) 2025 Conference, set to take place at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 3–4, 2025.
This conference marks 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War, offering a unique platform to examine the conflict’s enduring legacies across the globe. The event is organized by the Global Vietnam Wars Studies Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy School and invites contributions from scholars, researchers, veterans, and practitioners worldwide.
Conference Themes
We welcome proposals that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- New Assessments of the War: Human, social, cultural, religious, economic, political, psychological, diplomatic, civilian, and military dimensions, and how analyses have evolved since 1975.
- Perspectives from the Communist Bloc and Non-Communist Allies: Insights into victory, defeat, and the enduring impacts on national identities.
- Lessons Learned: How experiences have shaped the policies, military strategies, and power structures of Vietnam, the U.S., and other former allies and adversaries over the past five decades.
- Reconciliation and Healing: The war’s lasting influence on nation-building, and the ongoing challenges of healing and addressing war legacies.
- Migration and the Vietnamese Diaspora: The contributions, experiences, and impact of the Vietnamese diaspora on the political, economic, and cultural landscapes of their new countries.
This conference seeks to foster intellectual, historical, and cultural exchanges across nations and generations, contributing to scholarship, reconciliation, and healing.
Submission Guidelines
Interested participants should submit the following:
- Abstract Title
- 300-word Abstract outlining the proposed paper
- Brief Biography (max 150 words)

Notification of Acceptance: By March 31, 2025
