Call for Papers: 16th International Burma Studies Conference – Dealing with Legacies in Burma

The Center for Burma Studies at Northern Illinois University, in collaboration with the Burma Studies Foundation and the Burma Studies Group, invites scholars, students, and community members to submit papers for the 16th International Burma Studies Conference.
This year’s theme, “Dealing with Legacies in Burma,” encourages an exploration of the intertwined memories, legacies, and histories that shape Burma/Myanmar today.

Topics of Interest:
The conference welcomes scholarship that bridges different spaces, times, and disciplines, including (but not limited to):
- History, Philosophy, Religion, Literature, and Art History
- Sociology, Anthropology, Archaeology, and Economics
- Political Science, Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, and Law
- Cultural studies, Diaspora experiences, and Civic society organizations
Presentation Formats:
- Individual Papers (in English or Burmese, presentation in English)
- Organized Panels and Roundtables (in any language related to Burma/Myanmar)
- Workshops, Book Talks, Film Launches, Poetry, and Performances
Special Note:
Members of the diaspora and Burmese Americans are encouraged to share their community knowledge and practices. Early acceptance notifications will be provided for participants needing a visa to attend the conference.
Submission Guidelines
- Abstract Lengths:
- English Abstracts: 1,300 characters (with spaces) in a single paragraph
- Burmese Abstracts: 1,800 characters (with spaces) in a single paragraph
