2025 USINDO Summer Studies Program – Application Deadline Extended

Location: Yogyakarta and Jakarta, Indonesia

The US-Indonesia Society (USINDO) is now accepting applications for the 2025 Summer Studies Program in Indonesia. This 10-week immersive fellowship offers American students an unparalleled opportunity to learn Indonesian language and culture through intensive classes, cultural activities, and field trips.

Program Overview

The USINDO Summer Studies Program is a premier cultural and language immersion program designed to deepen mutual understanding between the United States and Indonesia. Participants will experience:

  • Intensive Language Classes: Learn Indonesian through interactive sessions with experienced instructors.
  • Cultural Immersion: Engage in field trips, lectures, and cultural activities in Yogyakarta, a cultural hub of Indonesia.
  • Homestay Experience: Live with Indonesian host families for complete cultural immersion.
  • Discover Jakarta: A post-program component offering networking opportunities with government officials, academics, NGOs, and private sector leaders.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • U.S. citizens aged 18 to 30.
  • Currently enrolled as juniors, seniors, or graduate students at an accredited U.S. college or university, or have graduated within the past six months.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated on:

  • Personal Statements demonstrating interest in Indonesia and its cultural, political, or social landscapes.
  • Academic Record showing strong performance.
  • Language Learning Commitment and career aspirations related to Indonesia or international relations.
  • Communication Skills as shown in essays and, if applicable, an introductory video.

Application Requirements

To apply, please submit the following documents via the application portal by February 23, 2025:

  1. Personal Statement (500-800 words) explaining:
    • Academic interests and career goals.
    • How this program will support your aspirations.
    • Relevance to USINDO’s mission to promote greater awareness of Indonesia.
  2. Optional Introductory Video (maximum one minute) for additional personal insight.
  3. Resume (PDF, max 2 pages, Arial 12 font).
  4. Academic Transcript(s) from the current or recently attended institution.
  5. Letter of Recommendation evaluating character, potential, and suitability for the program.
  6. Financial Documents for scholarship applicants only.

Fee and Scholarship Information

  • Program Fee: $2,000 (covers roundtrip airfare, tuition, cultural activities, accommodation, and more).
  • Needs-Based Scholarship: One scholarship available to reduce the fee to $500, based on financial need and strength of the application.
