The Southeast Asia Research Group (SEAREG) is now accepting applications for its Pre-Dissertation Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship is designed to support social science PhD students conducting exploratory research in Southeast Asia, helping them gain the contextual knowledge necessary to develop high-quality dissertation proposals and competitive applications for external funding.


Award Details

Recipients will receive up to $5,000, generously funded by the Henry Luce Foundation.


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be graduate students in good academic standing enrolled in a social science PhD program in the U.S. or Canada.
  • Have completed their first or second year of the PhD program.
  • Be eligible regardless of personal nationality or citizenship.

Preference:

  • Students in political science, economics, and sociology will be prioritized, though those in public policy, history, and anthropology will also be considered.
  • PhD candidates may apply, but preference will be given to those who have not yet defended (or recently defended) a dissertation prospectus.
