Announcement: Advanced Study of Khmer (ASK) Summer Program

The Center for Southeast Asian Studies is excited to announce the Advanced Study of Khmer (ASK) program, an intensive eight-week summer abroad program in Cambodia. This program, equivalent to two semesters of Khmer coursework at the University of Hawai‘i, combines rigorous academic training with cultural immersion and hands-on activities.
Organized by the Khmer Language Program at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM), the program is conducted in collaboration with the Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) and the Institute of Foreign Languages (IFL) at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP).
Participants will gain:
- A solid foundation in Khmer language.
- Skills for academic research and professional discourse.
- A deeper understanding of Khmer society and culture.

Program Overview
- Program Dates: June 9 – August 1, 2025
- Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
- Application Deadline: March 30, 2025
- Program Equivalent: Two semesters of advanced level (level 3- to Level 3+) Khmer coursework at the University of Hawai‘i.
- Participants must pay for the program’s total cost ($4500 to $4800).
- The program requires at least 6 to 9 participants.
The program is administered by the Khmer Language Program at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM), in collaboration with the Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) and the Institute of Foreign Languages (IFL) at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), Cambodia.
This hands-on program provides students with a linguistic foundation for academic research, professional discourse, and cultural immersion across Khmer society. It also fosters scholarly cooperation and cultural understanding between Cambodia and the United States.

- Airfare & Local Transportation: $1,500–$2,000
- Visa (2 months): $72
