Call for Papers – 27th Cornell SEAP Graduate Student Conference: Mobility

Abstract Submission Deadline: November 30, 2024

Conference Dates: March 7-9, 2025

Location: George McT. Kahin Center for Advanced Research on Southeast Asia, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, and on Zoom

The Southeast Asia Program at Cornell (SEAP) invites graduate students to submit abstracts for its 27th Graduate Student Conference, themed “Mobility.” This conference seeks to explore the complexities and constraints of mobility in and beyond Southeast Asia, from transnational dynamics to resistance movements, and the unexpected rhythms shaped by migration, environmental forces, and cultural flows. We are particularly interested in work that challenges traditional boundaries of Southeast Asian studies and academic conventions.

Submissions are open to original work from all disciplines, including but not limited to the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and the arts. We welcome both traditional academic papers and non-traditional formats, such as poetry, performance, visual art, and short films. The Kahin Center offers standard audiovisual equipment to support various presentation formats.

Submission Details:

  • Abstracts due by November 30, 2024.
  • Accepted contributors will be expected to submit full papers or materials by February 7, 2025.
  • Scholars from Southeast Asia are encouraged to apply, with limited travel funding available.
  • Preference will be given to presenters who plan to attend in person.
