We are excited to announce an incredible opportunity for UH Mānoa undergraduate students: an expenses-paid, two-week Oral History Field School in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, happening in July 2025. This program, hosted in collaboration with Hasanuddin University, offers participants a unique chance to document oral histories of forest landscapes alongside local youth and elders while gaining invaluable cross-cultural and research skills.
Program Details:
- What: Hands-on Oral History Field School to document forest landscape histories with local communities, promoting environmental conservation. (Optional: Gain additional experience through PACE 316 Environmental Governance in Spring 2025, focusing on oral histories in Hawai‘i).
- Where: South Sulawesi, Indonesia
- When: Two weeks in July 2025
- Who: Open to UH Mānoa undergraduate students
- Why:
- Deepen your understanding of environmental governance and conservation in Southeast Asia.
- Learn from culturally-rooted knowledge systems and contribute to long-term conservation efforts.
- Gain fieldwork experience, boost cross-cultural skills, and build connections with peers and scholars from Indonesia.
