CAORC-NEH Research Fellowship Opportunity

The Council of America Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) – National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Research Fellowship offers a valuable opportunity for scholars to conduct advanced research in the humanities while residing in one of the Overseas Research Centers. The fellowship provides funding for research conducted in one of the designated countries for a period of four to six consecutive months, with $5,000 per month awarded to selected fellows.

  • Anthropology
  • History
  • Philosophy
  • Archaeology
  • Linguistics
  • Religious Studies
  • Languages and Literature
  • Literary Criticism
  • Ethnomusicology
  • Art History

Scholars whose work embraces a humanistic approach are encouraged to apply. Research must be conducted in one of the following countries: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Cyprus, Georgia, Indonesia, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan (for senior scholars), Senegal, Sri Lanka, or Tunisia. Travel advisories will be monitored, and the CAORC will abide by all US Department of State restrictions.

Fellowship Details:

  • Duration: Four to six consecutive months
  • Fellowship Period: Between May 2025 and December 2026
  • Award: $5,000 per month
  • Application Deadline: January 15, 2025, at 5:00 PM ET

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must have a PhD or terminal degree (or have completed all requirements except conferral).
  • Applicants must be US citizens or have resided in the US for at least three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Independent scholars and minority scholars are encouraged to apply.

  • Applicants must submit a 1,500-word project description, a one-page bibliography/literature review, and a three-page curriculum vitae.
  • No recommendation letters are required.

  • Contribution to the applicant’s field of research and the humanities
  • Feasibility of the research design
  • Applicant’s qualifications and experience
  • Rationale for conducting research in the proposed host country and affiliation with an Overseas Research Center
