UH Mānoa Students Participate in 6-Week Cross-Cultural Field School in Southeast Asia
The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa is proud to highlight the recent participation of eight UH Mānoa students in a six-week field school program in Thailand and Indonesia. This unique program, funded by the Henry Luce Foundation, aims to foster cross-cultural learning and collaboration in Southeast Asia, engaging students in hands-on research with local communities.
In partnership with Khon Kaen University (Thailand) and Universitas Hasanuddin (Indonesia), students explored socioeconomic and environmental shifts in rural Southeast Asian societies, using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, conducting qualitative research, and studying agrarian transitions. Their experiences culminated in an international workshop in Siem Reap, Cambodia, where they presented their findings alongside Southeast Asian researchers.
