American Institute for Indonesian Studies Fellowships

The American Institute for Indonesian Studies (AIFIS) invites applications for research fellowships, open to Indonesian-based graduate students, researchers, and faculty members to conduct research in the U.S. Supported by the Henry Luce Foundation, this program aims to foster collaborative engagement between Indonesian and American scholars in any field of Indonesian studies or within the social sciences, humanities, and STEM fields where Indonesia is central to the research.

Duration

Research tenure must last at least six weeks (45 days) and must be completed by December 31, 2024.

Eligibility

  • Must be an Indonesian citizen planning to conduct research in the U.S.
  • Must hold at least a master’s degree or equivalent; doctoral candidates or post-graduates preferred.
  • Must be based outside North America, preferably affiliated with an institution in Indonesia.
  • Required to conduct at least six weeks of research in the U.S.

Amount of Funding

$7,000 (maximum)

Scholarship Benefit

  • Direct research funding
  • Support for travel to the U.S.
  • Required health insurance (provided by the awardee or their host institution)
  • Expected activities: completion of a public talk in collaboration with AIFIS upon returning to Indonesia
