CSEAS Director Appointed to U.S. Cultural Property Advisory Committee by President Biden

The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa is proud to announce that Professor Miriam T. Stark, Director of CSEAS and anthropology professor in the College of Social Sciences, has been appointed by President Joe Biden to serve on the U.S. Cultural Property Advisory Committee. Stark is one of three archaeologists appointed to this prestigious 11-member committee, which plays a critical role in advising the U.S. government on the protection of global cultural heritage.

The committee’s work focuses on preventing the illegal trafficking of cultural property, including archaeological artifacts, manuscripts, and ceremonial objects. Stark’s extensive experience in Southeast Asia, particularly her long-term research in Cambodia, makes her a valuable addition to this important initiative.
