Visiting Scholar Spotlight: Dr. Wiwik Sushartami

We’re excited to introduce Dr. Wiwik Sushartami, a Spring 2022 Fulbright Visiting Scholar, based in the Department of Geography and Environment UHM. She is a Professor of Anthropology from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Indonesia. She received her MA in Southeast Asian Studies, from National U of Singapore, and her PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Leiden University, Netherland in 2012. She is currently the head of the Tourism Studies Program at UGM. Her work spans several themes, including media studies, heritage studies, women studies, and cultural tourism. Her current research focuses on women’s resilience in tourism during pandemics and heritage tourism authenticity. 

She is scheduled to present at the Geography and Environment Lecture Series on Thursday February 10, noon-1. The title of her presentation is “Women workers’ resilience in Nglanggeran tourism village during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
