Advanced Study of Khmer (ASK) Program Receives Fulbright Grant [Updated 11/9/18]
The Center extends its congratulations to Dr. Chhany Sak-Humphry for receiving a Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad grant for her Advanced Study of Khmer (ASK) 2019 Summer Abroad Program!
Designed as an intensive six-week Khmer language-culture training program, ASK is a UH Mānoa/Royal University of Phnom Penh partnership that provides students with a unique opportunity to acquire Cambodian language skills as part of a cultural immersion experience.
The next iteration of the program will be held in Summer 2019 in Cambodia (4 weeks in Siem Reap and 4 weeks in Phnom Penh, from mid-June to mid-August). ASK participants will engage in seven hours of task-based language instruction and activities each day, take day-long weekend field trips to outlying areas of Phnom Penh, and have home-stays with Khmer families.
ASK will fund 12 fellowships for Summer 2019, and offers an unparalleled opportunity to develop Khmer language competence and learn about Cambodian history and culture. Application materials are now available on the Advanced Study of Khmer website. For more information about Khmer studies at UH, you can also go to the Khmer Language Program website.
