Manoa International Education Week: West Sumatra Talks and Performances
Three West Sumatra events are happening in conjunction with Manoa International Eduation Week.

Minangkabau Arts Performance
CSEAS, in collaboration with the UHM Department of Theatre and Dance, Manoa International Education Week, (MIEW), and the East-West-Center, is hosting the visit of a delegation of performing artists and cultural officials from West Sumatra from November 13-14, 2017.
The ensemble of 8 dancers will perform traditional dances, songs, and silek (martial arts) of the Minangkabau ethnic group at Campus Center (main tent/courtyard) on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 from 11:30a to 12:30p.

Talk: UH Manoa Tropsoils Project in West Sumatra, Indonesia: 30 years later
CSEAS is co-sponsoring this talk with CTAHR.

The TropSoils Indonesia soil management project was conducted by University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in the 1980s. Professor Ardi, Dean of Agricultural Faculty at Andalas University in West Sumatra, Indonesia, who was a UH grad student during the project, returns to UH to discuss the impacts of the project and provide and update on how the Sitiung project site has changed over the past 30 years.

Dr. Irwan Prayitno, Governor of West Sumatra, Indonesia will present an overview of West Sumatra province which is well- known for the richness of its natural resources, its unique Minangkabau culture, well-known Padang cuisine, dramatic mountain landscapes and diverse agricultural sector. Dr. Prayitno will also detail potential educational and investment opportunities in West Sumatra.
