Dr. Hieu Phung receives “Best Southeast Asia Paper” and “Best Young Researcher” Prizes

Congratulations to Dr. Hieu Phung, who received one of the two “Best Young Researcher” prizes for a paper entitled “Realizing the Red River of Northern Vietnam, 1000-1850,” presented at the 2017 Water History Conference held by the International Water History Association in Grand Rapids, Michigan! Dr. Phung recently graduated with a PhD in History after defending her dissertation, “Land & Water: A History of Fifteenth-Century Vietnam from an Environmental Perspective.”
Earlier in the year, she was awarded “Best Southeast Asia Paper” at the UHM School of Pacific and Asian Studies (SPAS) Graduate Student Conference. Her SPAS paper was titled “The Red River Dikes: From Flood Control to Agricultural Expansion”.
